The Venice Carnival

I spent some time in my wifes office this week. There’s a tiny print on the notice board that intrigues all the kids. Some like it some loathe it. I was struck by it’s beauty and the effort the models make to present themselves (It’s not always possible to determine if the model is male or female).

The back story to this shot is that I was photographing over the grand canal at sunrise. As the sun came over the horizon, the building behind me and this model were bathed in an amazing golden glow. When nothing conspires against you, when everything is just so, the results can be spectacular. Our skill lies in preparing for the inevitable unexpected moment and putting it square it it’s place.

I spent some time getting to know this model. I loved her costume and her eyes.

I also love the following two shots, Sunrise and Sunset from the same location. The sunset shot was highly placed in a Photographer of the Year Competition.

Sunset - Looking over the Grand Canal - Venice
