Eventually, the snow hit St Andrews

I had amazing day on Thursday. It snowed ! Not the sort of wake up in the morning to a blanket of whitness snow though. It started about 7 and my world quickly dissapeared in to a magical world of whiteness.

Once out of the village, I managed to get into town. Though some were miserable, most were enthralled. The Students and golf caddies were in their element. The countryside look bleak, stark and fantastic.

My main aim was to absorb the experience and grab some shots to record the moment. Being on the coast it rarely snows so heavily and when it does it usually disapears very quickly.

To my delight – my picture of a desolate St Andrews Harbour and Castle appeared in the Courier.

“It’s like being a celebrity without being on the front page”

A quote from my talented colleague Charlie Johnson, it made me laugh.

The SWPP competition results are out for January. I recieved two Bronze awards and a Silver.

My first entries in the competition: The horse was a grab shot during a failed seascape shoot on Islay. The sun broke through the clouds and really made my day. The image of Lilly was photographed on my first ever portrait commision. The seascape, Lunan Bay, a stark beautiful environment.

The horse got the silver.

Whilst councils report a shortage of salts for the roads; “Surfs Up Dude”

Out for sunrise yesterday, I spotted three guys having amazing fun surfing out past the harbour in St Andrews.

One of the guys, Stephen Paul, the local tree surgeon said they could use a few photgraphs for the web site Magic Sea Weed so I obliged.

On the way home, I figured there may be some news interest in the story. I contacted the local papers and this morning at breakfast there it was front page above the fold.

Could I ask for anything more ? Well just my name and where I live. And there it was. Famous till the chips.

Mike Alexander, the editor of the Courier tells me the circulation of the news paper is around about 69,000 per day, Monday to Saturday inclusive, with a readership of around 250,000 per day.
