Fredau Hoekstra – Fashion Photographs – Around our Studio

Chris MacKenzie Fashion Photography

I recently had the fantastic opportunity to photograph Fredau Hoekestra around our studio and in St Andrews.

Fredau and I actually met on a train around three months or so ago and planned to do a shoot at my place in Strathkinness.

It was a huge opportunity to work with Fredua she is one of the nicest people in our industry that I know.

I’m sure all of Fredua’s friends (of which I am one) would describe her as warm, caring, very unassuming and very innocuous until a camera comes into play and then she shines so brightly.

Here are a few shots from our day ……..

Ailsa Thomson Portfolio Shots – In a stream near St Andrews

undefined

It never ceases to amaze me what I get asked to do. Yesterday, I went out with Ailsa Thomson a fanstatic young actor who I met at The Space last year in Dundee.

This was a long awaited collaboration, on both our accounts, it started with a tentative email and an enquiry; “Ive seen your work – I love it – I would like to work with you”

The next step was a few site visits, difficult to see what the final outcome would be, but the locations were very special. So I left Ailsa to have a think about what she wanted out of the shoot and neither Sarah Rose (my assistant on the day) or I had the slightest expectation about what was to befall us.

Down the hill came Ailsa, blood pouring from her head, I knew it wasnt real. It wasnt – was it. yet all I wanted to do was scream, someone get an ambulance, it looked horrific.

That was the easy bit, the next step was for Ailsa and I to get into the stream. Unfortunatley, though the stream looked shallow, there was about two feet of silt, we both ended up with water far higher up our bodies then both us felt comfortable with us.

It’s so diffiult to choose from the images we took as they are all are stunning. We opted for 10 minutes as the water was freezing, yet we had made so many efforts to get to this point neither of us were giving up without a fight.

Sarah Rose, held the soft box perfectly whilst I took the shots. Sarah was a treasure on the day and did absolutely loads. Ailsa, well she gets all the credit. Watch out for more from Ailsa soon ……

Sarah’s – Fashion Photographs – Around our Studio

Ailsa Thomson

I recently had the opportunity to photograph some fashion shots for a young lady from our village, Strathkinness, on the outskirts of St Andrews.

We have a versatile space with an indoor studio and loads of exciting nooks and crannies around the grounds to make some interesting photographs. Sarah is a lovely girl and made my job incredibly easy with her extensive wardrobe, pleasant smile and light hearted attitidue.

I love these photographs – thanks Sarah, your one in a million.

Chariots 2011 – West Sands St Andrews – Marking the film Chariots of Fire’s 30th anniversary

undefined

I am absolutely delighted that my image of The West Sands photographed at Dusk has been used to promote Chariots 2011.

Chariots 2011, a 5 kilometer beach race, is being held on Sunday the 15th of May 2011 at the West Sands in St Andrews to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the film Chariots of Fire directed by Hugh Hudson and written by Colin Well.

The event is being organised by Ben McLeod who works in the town, you can sign up here Chariots 2011 Facebook Event Page

Chariots is the story of two British track athletes, one a determined Jew, and the other a devout Christian who compete in the 1924 Olympics. The race was filmed on The Iconic West Sands Beach, St Andrews, Scotland.

The event is in aid of the charity Sue Ryder who provide care to people living with complex long term and end of life conditions. It’s an extremely deserving cause, pleae sign up today !!!

A little about me: I was drawn to landscapes photography by the enescapable beauty and the stilness of the places that I’m drawn to photograph. When I leave, I leave with a piece of something that often takes my breath away.

In the final moments before the shutter is released the stillness settles and everything comes together, its a moment that brings a deep feeling of connection with something so fleeting that has now become tangible for everyone to share.

Now days, I’m not out as often as I would like. I spend my working day photgraphing families, fashion and commercial projects including food, bulding interiors and people in organisations.

For any one interested this photograph printed on A3 paper is for sale directly from me for £35.00 plus postage. It’s also for sale at the Guest House Six Murray park, St Andrews If you buy it directly from me, I will donate 20 percent to Sue Ryder.

Ailsa – Modelling Portfolio Photography – at our Studio just outside St Andrews

undefined

last year I had the fantastic opportunity to be invited to do some theatrical photography for The Space at Dundee College.

During my time there I photographed Ailsa, it was a great pleasure to hear from her recently when she asked if I would be available to take some photgraphs for her portfolio and create some head shots for her resume.

I love this sequence of shots and it’s really great to see the difference from what can be captured in a live stage production compared to my studio enviroment.
